Binding neatly repaired, ink name and date with another name crossed out on front flyleaf, edges faded with a few spots to boards and minor loss from corners, ink and pencil numbers on endpapers.

v, 307, [1] pp. Color frontispiece and plates. An informal guide to botany, by the lecturer on botany at Guy's Hospital, who wrote several other works on the topic. Each illustration is credited to 'Henderson del., Weddell sculp.' Thornton discusses flower anatomy, Linnaean classification, and numerous species of flowers and flowering plants.
