Limited edition, #891 of 1000 sets. Signed and numbered by author on limitation page of each volume. Volume 1 good with some splitting to top and bottom edges of front and rear joints, but overall very good. All volumes lightly foxed throughout, boards of a few volumes faded and lightly soiled, owner bookplate on front endpaper of each volume. Bindings tight and square.

Complete in twenty volumes. One of two variant binding styles: these were released in uniform bindings, as well as a version with multi-colored spines/corners - the former is the version offered here. The collected writings of Elbert Hubbard, one of the leading figures in the Arts & Crafts movement in the United States, who founded the Roycrofters in East Aurora, NY. The hand-crafted items they produced are widely collected for their quality and aesthetic appeal, and the buildings which comprised the Roycroft Campus currently enjoy the status of historical landmarks. This set's design is no exception: patterned leather spines and corners; gilt titles and decorations; frontispieces and plates in each volume, including reproductions of portraits, sketches, manuscript material, etc.; unique and intricate typography, most notably the gorgeous drop-cap initials; generous margins; deckled edges... an excellent example of early 20th century book design, and a wonderful representation of the Roycroft design aesthetic in general.
