Printed the year the Methodist church split over the issue of slave ownership, this edition includes a new section addressing the church's new rules regarding slavery (essentially, if you own slaves or otherwise support the institution of slavery, you are no longer recognized as a member of the church). The southern contingent of the Methodist church formed its own separate congregation in reaction to these new rules, though the two factions were later reunited.
