Bindings a bit shaken with split along front joint of second volume and smaller split to bottom edge of first volume's rear joint, boards a bit rubbed with a few spots to spines, light stain to bottom marginal corner of last twenty pages of first volume, embossed bookseller stamp from shop in Canandaigua, New York on front flyleaf.

iv, 329, [7]; v, [4]-370 pp. An abolitionist novel depicting the Great Dismal Swamp maroons, who were escaped slaves advocating for retribution against slaveowners. Includes an appendix transcribing Nat Turner's confessions (Stowe used Turner and Denmark Vewey as inspiration when crafting the character of Dred.
