Pollyanna became a children's classic, and inspired several film adaptations, including a 1920 version starring Mary Pickford, and a 1960 Disney version featuring Hayley Mills, who won an Oscar for her role. The novel led to the term 'Pollyanna' being used to describe an incurable optimist.
