1846 printing. Sabin 26517 describes an 1845 edition, an 1850 reprint by the same publisher as this volume, and an 1854 edition. Boards soiled, spine and edges faded, owner bookplate and pencil names on front endpapers.

ix, 221, 12 pp. Engraved frontispiece portrait of Williams, facsimile of his handwriting appears as a plate in text. A biography of the founder of Rhode Island, by the professor of rhetoric at Brown University. Williams was expelled from the Massachusetts Bay Colony by its Puritan leaders, and became an advocate for religious freedom, separation of church and state, and equitable treatment of Native Americans.
