The French philosopher explores the idea of the human mind as efficient cause, and the antimony of freedom, continuing the work he began in L'Evolutionnisme des idees-forces (1890), and would continue with La Morale des idees-forces (1907). Fouillee's work overall was an attempt to reconcile metaphysical idealism with scientific advancement.
