270 pp. 4to. Dark brown cloth, black titles and motifs, color picture plate mounted on front board, black-and-white illustrations by John R. Neill. The third Oz book, continuing the story of Dorothy and her unusual menagerie of companions. It was the first in which Baum clearly intended creating a series of Oz books. Most of the action takes place outside of the Land of Oz. Only the final two chapters take place in Oz itself. Dorothy again finds herself in the Emerald City with a desire to return home.
