104, lvi, 348 pp. Red leather spine with gilt titles and decorations, marbled boards and endpapers. French translations of two works by German philosopher Johann Gottlieb Fichte, a founder of German idealism whose work was largely developed using the ideas of Immanuel Kant as a foundation. Contrary to a common misconception, Fichte, not Hegel, originated the idea of thesis-antithesis-synthesis. This volume includes an 1838 translation of the 1794 work Einige Vorlesungen uber die Bestimmung des Gelehrten (The Vocation of the Scholar), with an 1845 translation of Die Anweisung zum seligen Leben oder auch die Religionslehre (The Way Towards a Blessed Life).
