Adler was a Rochester, New York native who designed and collected books. He founded Pynson Printers in New York City in 1922, and worked on book designs with Burton Emmett (president of the American Institute of Graphic Arts and founder and editor of The Colophon) and John T. Winterich (contributing editor of the Saturday Review and editor of The Colophon).
