New York: Smithson's Steam Printing Offices, 1855. Hard Cover. Very Good / No Jacket. Item #2324605

Boards soiled, board corners bumped, some pages foxed.

300 pp. Hoolihan 1857. "Sacred History assures us that the 'Life is the Blood,' and thanks to Harvey, we know that it circulates through the system by means of veins, and arteries; that in its periodical revolutions it is subject to important changes for the well being of life; these changes, whether for good or evil, depend upon both internal and external influences, and where such are inimical to well being, then medicine comes in to the rescue, not indeed by administering poisons... but by those simple herbs given by a wise Providence to be the true restorer of infringed nature. It is this system which is here offered to the world; it is founded on reason, truth, and Scripture, and now from labor, and research so judiciously adapted to every form of disease, that while it restores health it leaves the constitution in a renovated condition" (p. 6). In his consideration of the maladies listed on the title-page, Hutchings never describes the botanical elements that constitute his "new system," or their mode of action. He never fails, however, to note their success in effecting a cure. Preparations such as Dr. Hutchings' Inhaling Balm, Dr. Hutchings' Family Vegetable Pills, Doctor Hutchings' Nervous Antidote, etc. are offered to the public on the final [5] pages of his treatise." One of two versions released in 1855 by the same publisher, a clear priority, the only difference being pagination.
