La Mettrie's concepts later became influential in the theories of evolution and quantum mechanics. Bookseller John Howell says: "A little-known work by the famous materialist philosopher [La Mettrie] and author of L'Homme Machine” (Duveen). La Mettrie translated seven of Boerhaave's works into French.
