xiii, 171 pp. 21 plates follow text. The first major monograph on the subject of American spiders, by the most accomplished entomologist in the country at the time. He was among the first to collect and document spiders in the United States, and sold his collection of insects and other specimens to the Boston Society of Natural History in the 1840s. His writings on these specimens were published in journal form by the society from 1842-1850, but were not collected together in one volume until this edition was released. James H. Emerton provides additional notes and descriptions.
