First edition. Bookplate of John E. Thayer on front endpaper. Thayer was an industrialist active in western railroad development, and also an amateur naturalist, collector, and author. He sponsored several scientific expeditions.

22, [22] pp. 4to. Leather spine and corners, marbled boards and endpapers. Batchelder wrote that the edition appears to have been three hundred copies and is now very scarce. Casey Wood p. 256. Not in Zimmer, Ripley, or British Museum Natural History Catalogue. The work is in two parts, part I is 'Observations on Nocturnal Bird Flight at the Light-House at Point Lepreaux, Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick' and part II is 'Facts and Theories Respecting the General Subject of Bird Migration.' Brewster founded the American Ornithologists' Union and was an early naturalist and conservationist.
