A collection of nautical stories for juvenile readers, reprinted from six of Cooper's earlier works, illustrated with engravings from drawings by Darley. Cooper is best known for his five-volume Leatherstocking Saga (historical fiction featuring Natty Bumpo), but he also wrote a two-volume history of the United States Navy, most likely inspired by his time on a merchant ship, and as a member of the Navy, when he was a young man.
