Laid in are three letters (two TLSs, one ALS) from the author to Hella Street, asking for and thanking Mrs. Street for her assistance in providing letters that were used as a source for this work. Mrs. Street is cited in the 'unpublished sources' section of Knowles's bibliography. Hella Street was the wife of Julian Street, Jr., and this volume was acquired along with a collection of other books from Street's personal library. Also laid in is an envelope sent from Ottawa to Connecticut, and a photocopy of an October 29, 1988 review of the book in The Globe and Mail. Street's name and a page number in ink on front endpaper, 1/4 inch closed tear to front jacket corner.
