A 19th century commentary on the common practice of those suffering from consumption (tuberculosis) and other ailments to vacation in Italy and along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, consisting of a medical explanation of the illness, its symptoms and causes, and various methods of treatment, with four chapters dedicated to treatment by change of climate. Two of these chapters specifically discuss various regions of Italy, and include commentary that goes beyond health considerations. The author was Professor of the Theory and Practice of Physic in the University of Vermont; Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and of the Massachusetts Medical Society.
